Stand Up Comedy: Prescious popular humour for those who literate


Abstract

Stand up comedy is a show genre which presenting a comic who does speech in front of his /her audience. A humour genre which came from the west, but rapidly  flourishing in Indonesia since the mid 2011. Stand up comedy, is now an indispensable part on Indonesia popular culture stigmatized as the “literate comedy” . With characters as Pandji Prgagiwaksono, and Raditya Dika, appear as popular, creative, but remains consience youngsters. Stand up comedy has became Indonesians most wanted, and became part of Indonesia daily society.

This papers focused on examine the potential meaning of stand up comedy, in Indonesia daily society. Based on stand up comedy as semiotic source point of view, social semiotic analitics were used as the method.

The research consists of: viewing stand up comedy as a popular entertainment genre, prescious culture which came from the west; stand up comedy is a form of “literate commedy”, exclusive, with defined rules, but able to become a critical vessel with its aggresive, harassing, and rough language but rest assure since “it’s just a joke”.
